Damn robot, you got it going on ..

Martin Berthelsen created a hilarious viral video for Robodays, a robot festival based in Denmark. The festival actually looks pretty cool if your into that kind of stuff. This is a must see, as it is HILARIOUS.

Time for a new Drink Williamsburg ..

Apparently the hipsters have made the not so cool drink Pabst's Blue Ribbon, into quite the commodity.  PBR reported the drink is now more popular than ever, as sales are up 25% this year along.  The ever so "alternative drink," has apparently been pushed mainstream by those who only indulge in things everyone else has never heard of. (You guys are so much better than the rest of society.)  Or so they think.  Well its time for a new beer guys, maybe we can move on to something a little more underground and cheaper, oh say "Milwaukee's Best." (I think the hippies already have that one though)

Enjoy.

By the way, NBC Chicago gives a description of a hipster which I thought was hilarious:
Usually found smoking European cigarettes and/or cloves, hipsters are known for their despise of anything "mainstream" and their fondness for irony. They listen to bands that no one has ever heard of and start fashion trends that are cool because of their "uncoolness", e.g., trucker hats or vintage plaid shirts.

The Jejune Institute?

Octavio Coleman Esquire
(Founder of the Jejune Institute)

So while reading Juxtapoz the other day, I came across an advertisment for what looked to be a cult like society advertising different revolutionary products they have produced over the years.  Their mission statement: " The Jejune Institute aims to maximize human potential through the continuing advancement of socio re-engineering methods across the geopolitical realm.  We accomplish this through financial support, independent research, and experimental initiatives developed through our many international facilities".  Interesting I thought at first, the world needs some socio re-engineering.  The first product I came across was something called the 'Radionic Camera,' which claimed to take photographs of the future.

  The Radionic Camera

I didn't even need to read the rest of the ad, as I'd been intrigued enough to visit their website and see what the hell was going on here.  (www.jejuneinstitue.org)  I suggest visiting the website and seeing this nonsense for yourself.  Its quite enjoyable.  After a little research, I found out that this is more of an art project in the Bay area of California.  You can actually visit their location to which you will attend a seminar that involves a map and the Bay area.  If your in the bay area, and want to play into this project, visit:

BEAUTY/DEATH - SO MUCH IN COMMON

So since its the end of NYC fashion week, I figured these images would be relevant.  Japanese fashion illustrator, Fumie Sasbuchi, plays a lot with the subject of death while dealing with physical beauty.  I love the way she still savors the beauty of these images despite the gruesome way death is taking over the physical.
If your in Berlin, check out her work:

Whalehawk in San Diego

As much as we wanted to stay in Los Angeles, we had to leave. We piled back into the car for the trip down the coast to sunny San Diego.

Here we were lucky enough to get a blow up bed to stay on instead of the oh so comfortable Honda Element, thanks to my friend Dan and his girlfriend. We left a mark on what is known as the "little Italy" of San Diego.

We took a few pictures of the low flying planes over head, and then packed up shop and started the trip back East.

Except this time we were one hawk down... One of our friends, John, decided that life was better on the West coast, so we dropped him off at the bus station and moved on through the desert.

Whalehawk goes to Hollywood

After a short stop in San Francisco we traveled down the West coast to the land of dreamers, Hollywood California. We met up with my friend Lex, he gave us a great idea for a shirt, I don't want to put it here but you will know it when you see it, so we thought he deserved a shout out on the blog.

Of course Lex showed us how to party LA style, so we did not really get much of a chance to take too many pictures, but before we left LA we obviously got a photo shoot in right off of Hollywood Blvd.

Does this back drop look familiar to you, see anyone you know?

Moe had a really rough night... here he is just chillin, trying not to loose his breakfast.

Next stop, San Diego.

Hawks in San Fran

After the Hoover Dam we drove through the night to sunny San Francisco. First thing was first, we of course had to go and see the Golden Gate Bridge.

From the same spot that you can view the bridge you can also Alcatraz.. that is the island in the distance... check out that nice sticker on the sign... I wonder how that got there...

We decided to go for a hike in San Francisco Bay National Park. While in the park we discovered that there are numerous hawk that live, or at least hunt in the surrounding area, seemed like a perfect spot for a Whalehawk photo shoot.

What is that in the corner? The Whalehawk Mobile of course!! After the hike it was onto Los Angeles... what is that in the corner? The Whalehawk Mobile!!

WHALEHAWK SURF

So while the rest of the team was slaying it in Vegas, WH photographer John Jensen came down to grab some shots of the Whalehawk surf team taking advantage as Hurricane Danny headed up the east coast towards their hometown of Long Beach, NY. Here at Whalehawk labs, were been starting to gain more focus on the SURF/SKATE/SNOW aspect of the company and are in the midst of sponsoring riders and putting together a Whalehawk team. I will post a link to the full album from that session shortly!

Hoover Dam

While getting in the car to go to San Francisco we decided to take a detour and stop at the Hoover Dam. Upon arrival at the damn there was a security check point where they made us open up the top bag which we struggled to close the first time. Once inside we had our mission, to bring Whalehawk to yet another American icon. So we went to work.

Here is me and Moe setting up the sculpture, soon to be greeted by two federal agents. Apparently your not allowed to take pictures of the dam and use them for advertising without written consent from the federal government.. I do not consider this marketing soo its all good.. right?

Here we are taking care of the situation, we tried to give them stickers and flyers but they are not allowed to except such things.

We finally were able to get the pictures we were looking for, WHALEHAWK does the Hoover Dam!! Hell yeah!!

Even team Mexico was a fan of Whalehawk!

Dunk Exchange Las Vegas 2009

Okay so the main event in Las Vegas for us, the Dunk Exchange!! There was a really good turn out to the event, as soon as the doors were opened I was rushed by 4 - 5 people all asking me different questions, I knew it was going to be a good day! Everyone seemed pretty interested our clothing, obviously. You can see our table set up.
Here we were hanging out with Plus Givens, an up and coming artist from Miami who really kills it, (check him out at www.myspace.com/plusgivensmusic) before he performed his set.

Here is Surag (who is known as the "sneaker ambassador of New York City) from The Sixth Boro kickin' it with Team Whalehawk.
The show was a success and Vegas seemed to really dig Whalehawk Laboratories!!
Next stop, San Francisco.
